All things considered, that wasn't half-bad. I would've liked to have kept the hat.

[Brief pause. HEY ARTHUR, THIS MIGHT BE CALLOUS CONSIDERING ALL THE FOLKS WHO GOT SHOT.]

I hope everyone who wasn't quite as lucky is doing better now. Maybe we'll get a few quiet weeks before the Admiral's drunk driving throws something else at us.

I'm pretty sure this question's been asked before, but we've got some new faces since the last time. How many of you are here without any deal?

And a question for everyone: Do you think your deal-- or lack thereof-- has an impact on how you approach the job?

Don't worry, I'm not taking a survey or anything. It's just [Arthur wondering if he's really cut out for this rehabilitation crap] idle curiosity.

[OOC: GONNA TRY TO EASE ARTHUR OUTTA HIATUS NOW. Right before I fall asleep. I am the best at time management.

...

And yes I'm just using this icon one last time because I like it :c]

I would not stay if my deal were not so important to me.

Yeah. It does. I wanna help Cooper get the hell out of here at this point, though.

I do have a deal, but I believe I would have accepted the Admiral's invitation without one.

My deal makes me hate the Admiral. But I'm dead and I'm desperate, so I'll serve whom I must. [In other words, yes, it impacts how he does his job by making him kinda suck at it because of the oodles of resentment.]

I have other things that tie me here now, though, and not just my deal.

Yes, I suppose my deal does help motivate me to get the job done in a jiff if I can. Not that this is at all a bad place to hang one's hat for a while [Bertie somehow fails to notice the weekly murders], but it is trying to be without Jeeves.

I didn't arrange for a deal until recently. It did have an impact on my approach to my inmate, as well as his response to me. When I decided to request one, I discussed it with him first.

I seem to be in the minority, however, in that I'm of the belief that your inmate should be your first priority - not your deal, or anything else which comes along on this ship.

I didn't have a deal for over a year, and didn't request one until after I'd graduated two inmates of mine.

But I still believe that inmates are our top priority.

I don't admit to this often, but me. I think it makes me a little strange, but there you go.

I always thought it would impact on how I did the job, and never took one, but also because all the deals I could make... I would find morally troublesome.

I once discussed it with my inmate, though. She was astounded I didn't - she had wanted to know what mine was, so she could have a reason to want to graduate. Which, if you ask me, is very selfless of her, but not a real reason to want to graduate. I told her that I believe in doing right for right's sake, and if I want her to do the same - or come close to, or understand doing the same, I can't have ulterior motives of my own.

Not that I think I can make her into an altruist - not that I think I am one. But there's a certain small level of hypocrisy I couldn't work with. But I'm not judging anyone that does have one, and it might not outwardly impact on how I would do a job, but it does on how I think about it.

I didn't have a deal for over a year. When I finally made one -- well, the terms of it are frankly a little trivial, especially when set against the much more powerful motivation of seeing things through with O'Brien. [For which read: not letting the bastard win.]

Ultimately the deal doesn't affect my job. It's the part where I get to make a difference that's important.

[dumdeedum, doesn't know her husband threatened yooooou]

I only made my deal a year ago, when I departed from the Barge and then returned some weeks later, though I have been working here for a year and some months. It affects not my dedication to my work, though I admit it was difficult not to feel a sense of urgency when the deal was first made.

I think a deal can drive a warden - though certainly not all of our fellows adhere to this, or even agree with me - but I also believe that the expectation of the fulfilment of this deal can make them impatient, and this is very much a job about patience.

I wouldn't trust a warden unless they had one, back when I was an inmate. The ones who were here out of the goodness of their heart were the ones who swanned the fuck off.

I had no deal when I arrived. I came only because I was invited.

My deal now is for the benefit of my Inmate, in a way. His case is...unusual. Nonetheless, I believe it gives both of us further drive to succeed.

Maybe it did when I first got here, but since I got assigned? I'm really here to help Costigan. That's the first priority.

I don't have a deal, and I don't really plan on making one. I can't think of what it'd be for, anyway.

I want to stop a war. But I don't really think it's possible without something worse happening or preventing something good, so I'm mostly here just to help my inmate as best I can.
