So, what's the protocol for when a warden shoots an inmate? Or, specifically, their inmate?

[OOC: In reference to him shooting Mindy like a week ago with no comment at all. HE KIND OF FINDS THAT DISTURBING. And sorry for the fail post, I'm just sort of easing back into RP, and APPARENTLY MY BRAIN'S NOT READY YET.]

I don't know, I haven't exactly been here very long. But you can't just shoot your inmate, that's not right. There has to be some sort of punishment.

[He shrugs and sits on the aforementioned pulled-up seat.] I hate small talk, too. [Is he going to apologize for shooting her?]

Why do you think I brought it up in the first place? If I thought it was right, I wouldn't have said anything. The rest of you were sure as hell happy to ignore it.

If I'd been there I would have been the first to beat your ass. I'll just have to settle for making sure there's a system in place to discourage this sort of thing from happening.

This is messed up. Why was nobody around? Why the hell didn't anybody hear a damned gun go off? What is wrong with this place?

When have I ever said that I wanted to get off with a slap on the wrist? You want me to lose the gun? Fine, if that's what's voted on, I'll get rid of it. But telling me what I could have or should have done, after it's already happened, solves nothing.

And you were the first one here to make jokes about inmates getting shot 'haha', so maybe you should stop projecting your shit onto everybody else.

Well, I don't know if you'd want to be wishing about something like that because. Just. [Headshake.

Then pondering.] ...Okay, I can maybe buy the whole. Self defense thing there. But that still doesn't justify shooting a little kid!

And if I didn't agree with that sentiment, I wouldn't have brought it up. It was a stupid, careless mistake, and I'd rather see consequences than have it left unresolved.

[She eyeballs him warily.] So what, you hypnotize people?

[He shakes his head.] No. No, it's more complicated than that. We use dreams. [He rubs the back of his neck, taking another quick glance around.] Years ago, the technology was developed to allow for shared dreaming-- the ability to enter somebody else's subconscious while asleep. It was used by the military, originally, as a convenient tool to train soldiers. They could shoot, kill each other, without any of the consequences, because... What happens when you die in a dream? [He gives her a knowing look, because come on, everybody knows this.] You wake up.

Eventually, more enterprising individuals entered the picture. And that was how extractors became involved. Corporations, world leaders, celebrities-- people with money and power, interested in the secrets of their competitors.

...I suppose that's. Something, at least. The whole... Admitting that it was all those things. Hm.

[He scratches his head, trying to think and glancing back at Arthur now and again.]

Well, like I said, I don't know if there's a standard procedure for... This sort of thing. Though I'd kind of hope not, since that'd mean it happens often enough to warrant a procedure. But. ...I don't know, any kind of punishment or whatever for you would only go and kind of. Mess up your inmate more, either by getting switched around, or you just. Being busy with whatever happened to you because of this to help your inmate. So. [Shrug.] I don't know.

Thank you. I'd like to return to work here, officially [because I'M HERE RIGHT NOW AND I NEVER SLEEP WHY AM I WEIRD], but I have no intention of usurping- I'll be happy to assist and organise in the background.

[Pointedly ignoring the shooting question, because 1. he wasn't here, 2. wardens be crazy occasionally, and 3. eww guns. D: ]

As I'm sure you've worked out by now there is no protocol, nor any formal disciplinary system, largely because there's no higher authority to enforce it ~~and partly because the idea of genuine long-term cooperation is outright terrifying to far too many people here~~.

As it is, I wasn't here at the time of the incident but from what I'm seeing now, you shot a trained killer who you perceived at the time as being a danger to your life. You admit yourself that your response may have been disproportionate and that your gun shouldn't have been as immediately available as it was, so I'm not sure what you want anyone else to add. Whether or not you can still communicate with your Inmate and help her to progress is something that only you can know.

On the other hand, if this is your way of telling off everyone else for not being morally outraged sooner, then this is a rather passive-aggressive way of going about it but you might have a point. Although I doubt anyone in the Infirmary would have raised the issue until you were in good enough health to address it properly, and now you've beaten them to it.

I see.

In his defence on the latter point. I told him to come and tell everyone. I think he was going to do it anyway, but I don't think you can read it as passive-aggressive when I told him to do it.

It's a very good point, though, and I really hope it wasn't mentioned just because he was unable to answer for himself.
