[It's late at night, and Arthur is sitting at the bar, a glass of scotch beside him. He has something in his hand, but it isn't visible, so it's clearly something quite small.]

I've got a question for... anyone who feels like indulging me. [He drops the object in his hand down on the bar, just out of the shot.] What do you dream about?

What I'm wondering is... [He takes a sip of his drink, frowning a little.] After a breach, do you dream as the person you were, or the person you are? [Arthur can't answer that question, himself, since he doesn't dream at all without the PASIV. SUCKS TO BE HIM.]

Yeah, perfectly normal. [She snorts vaguely, pouring herself a finger of liquor.] I was a perfectly ordinary investigative reporter. So more or less my same, snoopy self.

[Arthur chuckles.] Did you ever make it into the facility?

I did, actually. I - she - must've been working for a long time to get access. I was trying to help them. [She's not really a scotch drinker, but she swallows it down anyway.] Didn't you used to be in the military?

[Arthur looks impressed, maybe even proud.] Good job. [He drinks, then, and nods.] Military Intelligence Officer. I was going to go career. [But then shit happened.]

And then you met Cobb and Mal and they swept you off your feet? [She smiles faintly and nudges his shoulder.]

[He laughs.] Let's go with that.

[So he's a little tight-lipped about the army. After a beat, though, he reconsiders.]

I was discharged, and it wasn't exactly an honorable one.

You, dishonorable? [It's meant to be lighthearted, but it's also an honest question. He's a criminal, sure, but a criminal with a strict code. She wouldn't be with him, otherwise.]

Bad Conduct Discharge. [Better than a Dishonorable Discharge, at least.] I took something that wasn't mine. Got caught. [He drinks, wincing slightly.] After that, I decided to follow my dreams. [Oh Arthur, you're a comedian.]

So you were a thief before you started dream-thieving, huh?

[She smiles faintly.] Tell me it was something good you stole, at least.

You could say that.

[He shrugs.] A PASIV. I was tasked with decommissioning the units. I didn't... exactly follow my orders to the letter.

Well, that makes total sense. [She smiles.]
